GOLD COAST SEVENS FANCAM
Not only have they tweaked the rules to make the 2011/12 HSBC Sevens World Series more fair and exciting, but the IRB also introduced yet another social media experience for fans at the various venues.
Fans at Australia’s Skilled Park this past weekend were the first to be photographed by the ultra-high-resolution (5billion pixels) FANCAM. The resulting 360degrees images can be navigated with the computer mouse: you can scroll 360degrees around the stadium, pan up or down and zoom it really close. The social media functionality allows fans to tag themselves, take images and postcards which can then be shared on popular social media platforms like FaceBook and Twitter.
From a South African point of view, the high-resolution image was taken soon after the 3rd-place play-off match between the Springbok Sevens and Australia, so the BlitzBokke can be seen huddled on the pitch.28/11/2011 – www.blitzbokke.com
