PHOTOGRAPHY

Many people expect to see a huge and complicated camera rig that needs hours of setup, but the reality is much less impressive. The FANCAM is a composite image, created by ‘stitching’ together hundreds of overlapping ‘zoomed in’ images. We use normal high-end DSLR cameras with telephoto lenses on very normal tri-pods. The magic lies in the method we’ve developed to use these instruments, as it finds the perfect balance between precision and speed. 

Most of our photographers have a background in sport photography and understand the pressure of ‘getting the shot’ while thousands of people are screaming around you. They are experienced in making fast decisions to adjust to the pressure of live events and our methodology allows them to capture these images 10 times faster than standard methods. It is the combination of a well tested method and highly skilled individuals that allows us to capture these huge images from positions never before possible.

PRODUCTION 

After a photographer has captured the images, they are digitally transferred to our production office where specialized production teams use extremely powerful custom built computers to ‘stitch’ the FANCAMS together. While some team members focus on sorting, stitching and rendering the overlapping images, others comb the massive resulting file for defects and make sure each fan captured is displayed in the best possible way. Working with files with 20 000 000 000 Pixels is a science, but delivering these images in 24 hours touches on being art. We take pride in the fact that where others may take two or three days to produce images of lesser quality, our production team has on occasion delivered 10 FANCAMs in two days, all within their 24 hour deadlines.
